Pregnancy
As soon as you realise you’re pregnant, you need to seek maternity care to give your baby the best possible start in life. Maternity care is free if you’re a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
Your Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) is there to provide maternity care and support through your pregnancy, labour and the first weeks of your child’s life. LMC are generally midwives, but can be a doctor or obstetrician.

Antenatal Classes
Antenatal classes can help you (and your partner) to prepare for labour, birth and early parenthood. Some classes focus mostly on labour and birth, while others guide you through late pregnancy, and what life with a newborn baby will be like. See the links below for information on some of the Antenatal classes offered in Hawke’s Bay, or speak to your LMC.
