Working with Us
We offer a supportive work environment at Totara Health and are focused on enabling our staff to achieve a healthy balance between work and the lifestyle that they want.
There are 14 GPs, 17 nurses, 14 Customer Service staff, 3 Administrators, 3 Healthcare Navigators, 2 Dieticians and a Pharmacist Facilitator. Totara Health works closely with a local Maori Health Provider, Kahungungu Health Services who offer outreach support to families with high health and social needs. Two Kaiawhina (Community Support Workers) from Kahungungu Health Services work regularly with Totara Health, providing support to our high needs Maori families access health and community services.
Totara Health runs a clinical governance model with the Clinical Director working closely with the manager to support the practice, its staff and patients.
Teaching and education
Totara Health is a teaching practice. Doctors who are part of the GP training programme are placed by the senior clinician at one of our two clinics.
The practice is also “Cornerstone” accredited by the College of General Practice in New Zealand. Cornerstone is an annual review of the practice and allocates a pass or fail rating. It is necessary to be accredited to be a “teaching practice”.
Both the Totara Heath clinics are well eqipped and maintained. The practice holds regular CME sessions with all GP’s and nurses and the Totara GP’s hold monthly peer group meetings.
Totara Health provides a nursing model of care to improve chronic care management and support patients with long term conditions. The practice also actively supports new graduate nurses into general practice and has developed an
effective way to support their integration.
